Horace Phillips is a freelance drummer, recording artist and music producer based in Brooklyn, New York.
Known for his versatility and depth of feeling on the drums, Phillips is active in many of NYC's creative music circles. He has performed at Carnegie Hall, Brooklyn Steel, Highline Ballroom, Rough Trade NYC, and Music Hall of Williamsburg, and has toured extensively in North America, including an early 2020 run as support for Allen Stone’s Building Balance tour. He served as Artist-in-Residence at the 2023 Moab Music Festival Winterlude with the Alison Shearer Quartet, and currently leads his own quartet monthly at Manhattan's Canary Club.
A regular in the studio, Phillips has contributed to dozens of projects as a performer and producer. Recent credits include Alison Shearer's View From Above (JazzTimes 2022 Critic's Pick, NPR Music Staff Picks Top 10 Albums of 2022) and Zusha's When the Sea Split (#1 iTunes World Music at debut)
In 2020 Phillips debuted as a solo songwriter/producer with the single "Like You Never Do", featuring vocalist Hattie Simon. A second single, "Favorite", followed in 2023, highlighting his multi-instrumental skill and commitment to analog production.
